MILAN — Valentino has confirmed the arrival of Alessandro Michele as creative director of the Rome-based couture house. He succeeds Pierpaolo Piccioli, who exited the brand on Friday after 25.
The designer was holding a press conference following his Valentino debut, which marked the ex-Gucci maestro’s eagerly anticipated return to fashion and his first runway show in two.
The flamboyant former designer of Gucci Alessandro Michele has been named the new creative director at storied Roman luxury house Valentino, following the sudden departure last week of Pierpaolo Piccioli after 25 years.
At Valentino, Michele will design full couture collections for the first time, and will be expected to grow every category of the business as he did at Gucci, where he created hit after hit. At Gucci, Michele’s ability to conjure “irresistibly desirable objects” transformed the fortunes of the house, nearly tripling revenues from €3.5 billion in 2014 to €9.73 billion in 2022.
On Thursday, Valentino confirmed Michele would succeed Pierpaolo Piccioli, starting at the Rome-based couture house on Tuesday and unveiling his first collection for spring 2025 in Paris.
